Human being has always had an
inbuilt tendency to do things what she or he feels right and going against
whatever is felt incorrect. Various religions and Spiritual Gurus have always
strived to let people know to differentiate between the correct and incorrect
and mythology has always proved the fact that the right-doer is always rewarded
and the wrong-doer always punished. Earlier society was simple and over
generations of similar experiences, it could be easily decided what is correct
and what is incorrect. In today’s changing structure of society, where every
relationship is different and every situation is different, maybe we cannot
always decide the validity of a decision by previous experience or social
Guidelines. The same thing may be classified as correct by someone and someone
else may still interpret it otherwise. What needs to be understood is that
clearly the terms “Right” and “Wrong” are just the two extremities of a wide
spectrum of decisions such as partially correct, partially incorrect,
that-would-have-struck-in-that-situation, best thing to do at that time and
many more. We definitely cannot classify everything viewing it just from a
particular angle.
According to me, every person is
always correct according to himself. He always acts in the most suitable way he
can think of in a particular situation. For a student cheating in an
Examination, maybe the thought strikes him that if he fails, he would be
upsetting the expectations of his parents and be joked in his friend circle.
When a robber steals, maybe he thinks his theft is necessary to support his
family or to give all luxury to his people. What the two in the above cases
don’t realize is the fact that there are other better and healthier ways to
achieve what they want. But, their thinking at that time permits them only to
establish their acts as correct in front of themselves. Luckily, we the human
being have an inbuilt something within us to judge our actions involuntarily-
the Mighty “Conscience”. So, maybe we can define those acts approved by our
conscience as “Right” and the others as “Wrong”.
If a child commits a mistake, it
is not against his conscience and so, we may never take it as wrong. But, when
we realize that we are doing something that may hurt or cause injustice to
others or is immoral in any other way and still proceed to do that, the society
around has every authority to classify us as a Wrong-Doer. Let us drift away a
bit from how we are perceived by others. The truth is that whenever we know
that we are doing something wrong, however daring or insensitive we may be,
that little voice inside us pinches us and we do away our peace atleast for
that while. The corrupted politicians or the terrific Dons, apart from the
luxurious lifestyle and their every wish getting fulfilled can never mentally
or emotionally sound as sub-consciously they know that whatever they are doing
is highly incorrect.
When a Zehadi or terrorist kills,
he is made to believe that such killings are good for their religion and thus,
he takes it up as his passion and aim of life and that may not pierce him much
to kill someone or destroy something as he feels that through these little
injustices, he is uplifting his race, thus, satisfying a greater purpose.
Similarly a brother or father slaying her sister or daughter in an act of
so-called Honour Killing does that even when they have loved the girl since
childhood just because they feel it correct to do for the sake of their caste
or village. We may live in an educated and rational society to categorize both
the mentioned acts as clearly incorrect, but, a peep through the tubular vision
they see it would show us the angle they see that as justified.
Thus, we may interpret the whole
scene as the society perceives something as “Wrong” when a greater part of it
or rather when the educated or elderly people who have a say, infer the thing
to be “Wrong”. In our day-to-day lives, there are many facts our friends call
right and elders call wrong, particularly at teenage and early adulthood. It is
clearly upon the situation to decide. In this world of Democracy, where every
action is aptly viewed both in terms or its correctness and incorrectness, it
becomes very clear that probably there exists nothing as such like “Right” and
“Wrong”. Rather everything is equally right or wrong depending upon its
usefulness and implications.
Thus, it is us and only us and
our conscience that act as our permanent source of decision as right and wrong.
If we are right for ourselves and don’t need excuses to validate our actions in
front of our conscience, then, we need not care for the world. We are our own
judge and that is the best way to live righteously and peacefully. After all,
it’s better to be our own Master than the world’s servant.
Hope you found my views somewhat
“Right”. Let me know what is “Wrong” according to you.
My Second Entry for today. Bye Bye.
